A fume cupboard is a ventilated box designed to protect the user from inhaling toxic fumes when working with dangerous chemicals. Fume cupboards, also known as fume hoods or fume cabinets, are used in laboratories, class rooms and industry.  Single sided fume cupboards have a counterbalanced, vertical sliding, clear sash door on the front of the unit.  A double sided fume cupboard has two vertically sliding doors position on opposite sides of the cupboard. Chemical fumes are extracted from the fume cupboard via a chemical resistant fume exhaust fan. The fumes then travel via plastic ducting and are subsequently safely expelled to the atmosphere.
